Seitai Shinpo is a modern system of acupuncture developed by Dr. Daiichi Sorimachi in Japan in the 1970’s. He was the first to discover that internal organ systems could be balanced through alignment of the spine with acupuncture and moxibustion (moxa).

The goal of Seitai Shinpo is to diagnose patterns of contraction along the spine and to release those areas. This is done through precise point location and needling along the contracted areas of the spine. Once the needle is inserted into the proper area of the muscle, tension releases and the spine can once again align itself. This results in nearly immediate pain relief as local nerves and blood supply can reach internal organs. Each point sends an impulse to the brain, which then sends messengers through the body that release endorphins, serotonin, and other “feel good” chemicals. This relieves pain, promotes healing and is one of the reasons that people feel so well after receiving a Seitai Shinpo treatment.

Immediately following the insertion of the needles, an herb called Artemesia Vulgaris (mugwort) is burned directly on top of the points that were needled. This is called direct moxibustion. Oil released from the heat of each moxa cone increases the production of white blood cells. White blood cells are responsible for locating and fighting off viral or bacterial invasions and detecting and eliminating abnormal cell growths. Moxibustion can also be used to reduce inflammation, strengthen adrenal activity and support the cardiovascular system. Many patients feel refreshed and alert after receiving moxibustion.

How Does Seitai Shinpo Balance the Autonomic Nervous System?

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a regulatory system that helps us adapt to our environment.

It plays a vital role in restoring and maintaining health. This nervous system branches off the spine. When spinal muscles are contracted, important signals can not be transmitted to the brain and organs. This is when the disease process begins. The ANS has two branches: the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for our ‘flight or fight” response. When constantly activated, stress is placed on the heart, adrenal and digestive systems. Many people in developed and westernized cultures spend most of their time operating through sympathetic nervous responses.

The parasympathetic nervous system is the “rest and relaxation” response. It helps us to digest food and to fall asleep. It is activated in quiet times such as meditation.

Seitai Shinpo restores harmony between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. You will know they are balanced when you feel alert when awake, and when you enjoy restful sleep when tired. Your mental, emotional, and physical health will be greatly improved!

2. Increasing the body’s natural immune response through the use of moxa.

3. Harmonizing the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous systems.

4. Relieving pain through the stimulation of the vertebral nerves and the release of endorphins, serotonin, and other “feel good” chemicals.

5. Strengthening adrenal activity and supporting the cardiovascular system.

6. Stimulating the lymphatic system.

Is Seitai Shinpo acupuncture for me?
Seitai Shinpo acupuncture is for anyone who wants to boost their body’s innate ability to heal itself. When the physical distortion is corrected, internal disease can be healed. When the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems are in harmony, future disease can be prevented. Seitai Shinpo is very effective at treating the root cause of disease and improving the quality of life.
